What Doesn't Work for Me Wednesday

Okay, so today's WFMW theme is to tell something that doesn't work for you. There is so much I could say that doesn't work for me.

Organization strategies.
Mommy planners.
Weight loss pills.
Epidurals.
Antidepressants. (just kidding! they work great...)

But, the top of my list has to be budgeting to save money. I try to work out a budget. I try to stick to it. And then two days later the whole thing is shot to you-know-where.

It kills my husband that I can't create a household budget and stick with it. (It should be noted it doesn't kill him enough to motivate him to take charge of said household budget and bill paying.) But, the only thing that seems to work for me is challenging myself to save as much as humanly possible each month and competing with myself to see how much more I can save than I did in the past.

Aside from actually hiding money from myself in flower pots and box springs, that's the only way I can manage to budget to save. Maybe one day I'll grow up and magically learn the key to making (and sticking to) a monthly budget.

Okay, so that is what's not working for me. Head over to Shannon's Dryer to see what isn't working for other moms!

Hey! I know how you feel. It took us years to figure out the right budget. I was going to post a thing on my budget for WFMW but with it being a what doesn't work I have saved the post for next Wednesday. Maybe I will have something useful to you.

I stink at budgeting too. Actually -- I'm good at making a budget (I posted about it once on my blog), but I stink at actually sticking to it. It makes me so mad at myself!

We don't budget either. Both of us are rather frugal, so we actually manage quite well. People are always shocked at how well we do when we don't even budget.

Amen. I've done Dave Ramsey. Considered Overspending Annonymous. Tried to earn more money. Why is there too much month left at the end of the money? I'd been doing much better till this week. Crashed and burned. Overdraft. Ugh. I, too, will watch for the other commenter's post on her budget next time.

What I want to know is how are you supposed to budget for anything when the price of food and gas just keeps going up every week? Can I budget in a pay raise every week too?

In my defense I've tried to take back control of the budget many times but then you go all flash-backy thinking of when I did do the bills. No so good, eh?

Curious about epidurals (as I discern my own childbirth preferences)...they don't work for you as in you used one & had a bad experience, or you just didn't go there at all?

Oh, honey, me too! I have started just writing everything I write a check for or use my card for on my husband's check stub. It makes it so much easier. I have tried so hard to do keep everything written down but it just does not happen!
